Milford is home to the Milford Shopping centre, a number of great restaurants and cafes all centrally located. All on the flat and in walking distance is Lake Pupuke and Sylvan Park where there is canoeing, sailing, rowing, windsurfing and many other recreational activities. Milford Beach is a popular family beach with a playground, large grass reserve, toilet block, volleyball court, and is home to the Milford Marina, Sea Scouts, and the Milford Cruising Club.

Milford School itself laps onto Pupuke Lake and has a number of water sports and education.
